Since being legalized under the 2018 Farm Bill, cannabidiol’s popularity has grown exponentially. And average folks aren’t the only ones who use CBD. Celebrities in sports and entertainment are also huge fans of CBD derived from hemp.

Just like the rest of us, celebrities are leveraging the power of CBD to enhance sports performance, calm anxiety, and manage numerous other challenges. It might even be said that the influence of celebrities has led to CBD’s widespread uptake. By the same token, celebrities have been quick to invest in CBD, some even setting up personal brands to sell it. But whoever started the fire, there’s no doubt that the result has been an economic uplift.

Here’s a look at 10 celebrities who are known for their cannabis consumption.

1. Seth Rogen Seth Rogen, a prominent actor and comedian, is almost as famous for his cannabis advocacy as he is for his films. A Celebrity in Its Own Right

With a THC content of .3%, hemp-derived, non-intoxicating CBD’s popularity has changed the economic outlook of sectors like agriculture. The influence of this crop on increasing the sustainability of modern farming represents a priceless gift to the future, all on its own.

In truth, the attributes of this compound in the hemp plant speak for themselves, explaining its increasingly normative market presence. In other words, CBD is a celebrity in its own right, needing no endorsement!

CBD and the Celebrities Who Use It

The celebrities we’re going to touch on all have distinct reasons for using CBD. From all backgrounds and sectors, from modeling to MMA, these people have found a better way to provoke balance and overall well-being for optimal function.

Anthony & Sergio Pettis

Mixed Martial Arts fighters, the Pettis brothers are loud and proud proponents of cannabidiol. MMA is a tough style of fighting, demanding much of the body. It can get rough! Aches, pains, and dings from the ring abound. Pain and inflammation usually mean painkillers and anti-inflammatories. But the Pettis brothers have found a natural solution, with CBD.

Using oils and topicals, the brothers have discovered an ally in combating the rigors of MMA that’s physically beneficial. Meanwhile, they’re happy to be spared the organ damage anti-inflammatories can be responsible for and the addiction risk presented by painkillers.

Seth Rogen

The Vancouver-born comedian who brought you Pineapple Express is internationally known for his cannabis activism but he also endorses the tremendous value of CBD. With personal experience of CBD’s effects on muscle and other pain, Rogen has a special interest in what it can do for Alzheimer’s, founding the charity, Hilarity for Charity. The charity’s preventative lifestyle approach to Alzheimer’s disease includes exploring the benefits of CBD.

Seth Rogen’s presence in the public square as an advocate for the virtues of both cannabis and hemp CBD derivatives has been instrumental in destigmatizing these helpful plants. His fearless advocacy has opened the door for new paths to human wellness.

Alessandra Ambrosio

Famed for her legendary, angel-winged walks down the Victoria’s Secret catwalk, Alessandra Ambrosio is proud to proclaim the virtues of CBD. In the stressful, fast-paced world of international fashion modeling, stress and anxiety are never far from the surface.

But Ambrosio discovered that CBD oil could help her sleep well before a big show by calming anxiety. She further discovered that CBD oil could relax and soothe muscles after her rigorous pre-show workouts. Without negative effects, CBD keeps Ambrosio at her balanced, well-rested best.

Morgan Freeman

Known for his deep voice and stellar work in films like the iconic Driving Miss Daisy, Morgan Freeman also suffers from fibromyalgia. Until quite recently considered the product of hypochondria, fibromyalgia has only been recognized as a chronic pain condition since 1987.

To control pain, Freeman uses full-spectrum CBD to elicit the entourage effect. Under the care of doctors since 2008 to control his condition, Freeman swears by both cannabis and CBD to mitigate pain, sharing his experiences of these complementary treatments with conviction.

Jennifer Aniston

Friends alum and screen star Aniston has long been a recipient of CBD’s virtues, calling on it to address pain, anxiety, and stress. But Jennifer Aniston’s reverence for CBD goes beyond even those benefits.

Swearing by CBD-infused skincare products, Aniston invokes the fatty acids delivered by the cannabinoid as well as its anti-inflammatory properties. The benefits are clearly evidenced in the health of this 54-year-old actress’s skin.

Lolo Jones

Since the World Anti-Doping Association (WADA) dropped CBD from its list of banned substances in 2018, athletes have been jumping on the opportunity to leverage its benefits for training, performance, and recovery. Lolo Jones is one of them.

This Olympian hurdler and bobsled racer suffered a whiplash injury in a training accident. She uses CBD to manage residual pain and other training challenges. Jones says she’s done her homework on reputable CBD companies. As an Olympic athlete, she can’t take chances with the possibility of high THC content. Her hope is that companies working outside regulations pull in their horns, allowing athletes like her to approach CBD brands with total confidence.

James Moore

You may not know this celebrity’s name but fans of American ballet certainly do! James Moore is a principal dancer with the Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle. A dancer approaching 40 years of age, Moore has challenges his younger counterparts don’t and CBD helps him deal with those.

Moore uses CBD to get the restful sleep all dancers need to perform optimally, waking up with less muscle tension. With an arthritic joint in his lower back, Moore avoids painkillers with the support of CBD.

Research is Catching Up

As we’ve just read, celebrities turn to CBD for numerous reasons. At least one on our list above believes that CBD can help prevent Alzheimer’s. But research is still catching up to the stated properties of the cannabinoid, bringing more and more of its attributes and benefits to light. What does science say?

Sports Performance

CBD requires significantly more study in terms of sports performance, recovery, and fatigue, especially with respect to its effects on elite athletes. But one study found that CBD combined with other protocols was a potential means of preventing injury caused by cumulative sports-related fatigue. The study also found that CBD provides natural anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.

Alzheimer’s

A recent study offered new hope that CBD may prevent Alzheimer’s. The study showed that CBD may work to protect the brain against AB42, the protein biomarker that indicates the disease and other cognitive disorders. While this neuroprotective trait of CBD has only been tested on mice, a 2021 study on advanced-stage Alzheimer patients showed increased production of the proteins required to remove plaque from the brain.

Fibromyalgia

A 2016 study showed that fibromyalgia, migraines, and other treatment-resistant conditions may be rooted in an endocannabinoid deficiency. The body’s endocannabinoid system is one of the reasons CBD is so attuned to human needs. When the body is deficient in naturally occurring endocannabinoids, their production can be increased by CBD consumption. This last revelation may prove to be a therapeutic missing link for many health challenges.

Anxiety

While CBD has not yet been cleared by the FDA for use as an anxiolytic (anxiety reduction treatment), research has provided substantial support for such use. Study after study has shown results dramatic enough to merit adoption as a complementary treatment, at minimum.

Skincare

Cutaneous (skin) health is regulated by the endocannabinoid system, meaning there is a direct relationship between CBD and the skin which has not been explored. A positive correlation between acne treatment and CBD has already been established, and a recent study found that CBD may prevent skin cell oxidation.
